Páger Zöld Veltelini: A Barrel-Aged White from the Heart of Mátra

Páger Zöld Veltelini is a full-bodied, barrel-aged white wine from the Mátra wine region, combining the crisp acidity typical of the Zöldveltelini grape (internationally known as Grüner Veltliner) with the added complexity of barrel aging and lees contact. If you're looking for a characterful, food-friendly white that's still easy to love, Páger Zöld Veltelini is an excellent choice.

Origin: 35-Year-Old Vines from the Csák-berek Vineyard

The grapes for this wine come from 35-year-old vines in the Csák-berek vineyard. Older vines typically yield more concentrated, complex must, which forms one of the foundations of the wine's full-bodied style. The vineyard carries the characteristic mineral soil profile of the Mátra wine region, which shows through clearly in the finished wine.

Winemaking: Barrel and Lees Aging

After harvest, the grapes are crushed and destemmed, then, following a light settling period, transferred into 300-liter, medium-toast, first-fill oak barrels. There, the wine ages for six months on fine lees using the sur lie technique, which builds a creamier texture and a more complex aromatic profile. After aging, the wine undergoes a light filtration and is bottled unfined, preserving as much of its natural character as possible.

Tasting Notes

The aroma of Páger Zöld Veltelini is dominated by sweet spice notes derived from barrel aging and the sur lie technique. On the palate, green apple, pear, buttery, and ginger notes emerge, balanced by firm acidity. It's a full-bodied white wine with a long finish that carries the mineral character typical of the Mátra region.

Food Pairing

Thanks to its buttery, spiced character and full body, this wine can pair beautifully with poultry in creamy sauces, mushroom dishes, aged semi-hard cheeses, or even dishes with ginger-forward, Asian-inspired flavors.
