Mátra
Mátra
Páger turns the Mátra’s volcanic soils and cool breezes into bright, precise natural wine — Zöld Veltelini, Szürkebarát, Kékfrankos & Syrah at BTW.
Tradition reborn, precision in every drop — Mátra in its purest form. Páger works the volcanic soils and cool mountain breezes of the Mátra wine region in northern Hungary, and channels them into wines that are bright, juicy and quietly complex. There’s nothing flashy here. Just clean, honest, cool-climate winemaking with a clear sense of place.
The Mátra’s volcanic bedrock and elevated, breezy vineyards are a natural fit for fresh, mineral-driven wines, and Páger leans into exactly that. Careful vineyard work and a restrained hand in the cellar keep the focus on transparency: you taste the grape, the soil and the vintage rather than heavy winemaking.
The range covers the region’s signatures and a few surprises — a crisp, peppery Zöld Veltelini (Grüner Veltliner), an amphora-aged Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) with extra texture, and structured reds in Kékfrankos and Syrah. Together they make a strong case for the Mátra as one of Hungary’s most underrated cool-climate regions.
