Type Red
Region Sopron
Vintage 2023
Alcohol 13%
Volume 750ml

The Wetzer Pinot Noir is a masterful, cool-climate expression of one of the world's most delicate grape varieties, grown on the historic border of Hungary.

Crafted by minimalist winemaker Péter Wetzer in the Sopron region, this elegant red wine showcases how sensitive, old-school craftsmanship can coax incredible depth out of tiny, windblown vineyard plots.

The Terroir & Taste Profile

This living, unmanipulated wine pours a beautiful translucent ruby. On the nose and palate, the Wetzer Pinot Noir bursts with juicy black cherry, wild berries, and a bright, energetic pop of acidity.

Unlike overly extracted commercial alternatives, its fruit profile is perfectly balanced by a savory, complex earthiness and an unmistakable cool-climate minerality derived from Sopron’s unique schist and limestone soils.

Low-Intervention Viticulture & Winemaking

In both the vineyard and his 5-generation historical family cellar, Péter Wetzer follows strict natural methods. The vines are treated only with organic elements like sulfur and copper. Following a meticulous hand-harvest, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild, indigenous yeasts, utilizing around 30% whole clusters to add structure and spice. The juice is then quietly aged for 12 months in neutral Hungarian oak barrels before being bottled completely unfiltered and unfined with minimal added sulfur.

Food Pairing & Service

Thanks to its light-to-medium body and vibrant structural acidity, this bottle is an incredibly versatile companion for food pairings. It pairs excellently with pan-seared duck breast, mushroom risotto, or roasted pork loin. For an optimal experience, serve it slightly chilled at around 14–16°C in wide Burgundy glasses.
