PAP Wines Rozsda: A Two-Week Skin-Contact Szürkebarát from Szent György Hill

Discover one of the deepest and most exciting natural orange wines

PAP Wines Rozsda is a 100% Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) wine born from the vineyards of volcanic Szent György Hill. The wine's name directly references its wonderful, coppery-rust color. As a result, this bottle perfectly embodies PAP Pince's radical, minimal-intervention winemaking philosophy.

How PAP Wines Rozsda Is Made: Two Weeks of Skin Contact and Barrel Aging

The winemakers chose a highly precise process, taking advantage of the natural pigments found in Szürkebarát grape skins. The hand-harvested grapes fermented together with their skins for two weeks after processing. After pressing, the wine spent nine months in old oak barrels, where continuous lees stirring was applied in the cellar. Thanks to this complex process, the wine gained an astonishingly rich structure, and the palate became remarkably creamy and full-bodied.

Volcanic Basalt and Sulfur-Free Purity

The basalt-rubble soil of Szent György Hill leaves a deep mark on the vines. The winery strictly follows organic and biodynamic farming principles, using no systemic chemicals or synthetic fertilizer in the vineyards. Cellar work is likewise guided by a zero-added-substance principle: the wine is bottled completely unfiltered and unfined, containing no added sulfites at all, preserving the pure, vibrant energy of the volcanic terroir.

Tasting Notes

Poured into the glass, the wine shines in a beautiful, deep rusty-copper hue. Its aroma is dominated by dried orange peel, ripe apricot, and wild herbs. Eastern spices and salty-mineral notes make the aroma especially distinctive. On the palate it's full and silky, held in perfect balance by fine tannins.

Food Pairing

Thanks to its complex character, it's an excellent companion for roast duck and Moroccan spiced dishes. It also pairs brilliantly with wild mushroom dishes or aged cheeses. We recommend serving it slightly chilled, at 11–13°C.
